Baby proofing a home is a very important aspect that should be considered in home improvements and in building a home. You don’t realize how important it is until you have a baby at home. For newly weds and expectant parents, baby proofing is one of the most important things that must not be ignored in the preparation for the baby’s arrival.
We think our home is the safest place for our baby. But anything at home can be a potential danger. Small objects, medicines, chemicals, hot pans, sharp objects, electric plugs and many more can possibly be harmful. Babies are very active and unpredictable. You’ll never know what they’ll do next and with their young minds they are unable to differentiate what is safe and what is not.
Nothing is more important at home than the safety and well being of your own child. Because they are prone to accidents, some home security such as baby proofing must be implemented at home. Visit every room in the house and find anything that can be a potential danger to the baby and implement an immediate action to rectify those.
Most of the baby’s activities are done in the living room and the nursery. Make sure all the hard corners and sharp edges in the room and of the furniture are padded to prevent the baby from hitting against them. Use baby proof latches or locks on the doors leading to other room and never use rubber stoppers because it can be a choking hazard to the baby.
Place the crib away from the windows in the nursery area and for more safety, place a rug around it. Make sure no small objects, medicines, poisonous chemicals are left in the room which are within reach of a child. Keep them in a locked cabinet or in areas that can’t be reached. The heavy objects and furniture must not topple because the baby might pull it or climb on it. Make sure to unplug the appliances and cover the sockets with baby proofing covers to prevent electrical shock.
Gates are very important to deny the child’s access to other rooms such as the kitchen and staircase. For the staircases, make sure to install safety gates on the top and the bottom. You don’t have to chase your child the whole time. You can confine him to a safe area at home where he can safely roam around with the use of safety gates.
Babies and children are very active and are prone to accidents even at home. That is why taking care and protecting a child is tough. But the joy of taking care of him and making sure that he is safe is incomparable. With some safety measures, you can be assured that your child is safe in your own house.
