One of the most difficult things about bed bugs is that they are so small they can get anywhere. That does mean that it doesn’t really take any special substances to get rid of them on the whole, because they can easily just be squashed with the wipe of a cloth. The problem is being able to find them all though. This means that you have got to clean everywhere to be sure of getting them all.
When someone says that everywhere has to be cleaned, that probably does not sound all that bad. However usually what is implied is that everywhere that it is relatively easy to get to should be cleaned. In terms of bed bug treatment though, it means that even the tiniest of little gaps must be treated. For example, the little joints in a chair or desk, inside all drawers, and behind skirting boards, are all places that are going to have to be cleaned.
While it is wrong, therefore, to treat the bed exclusively, it will need special attention to be paid to it. This is going to go further than simply washing the sheets and cleaning the mattress. That will be a part of it, but the bed frame will also need cleaning. To be sure that you are able to do this as thoroughly as possible, it’s going to be necessary to take the whole bed apart. That is the only way you’ll be able to get in between all of the joints.
We mentioned earlier that you don’t really need any special substances to get rid of bedbugs, which is actually only half true. If they didn’t hide in any awkward places then you wouldn’t, but sometimes the gaps they are able to fit in are so small that you cannot get in there with a cloth to clean them. Instead, therefore, you have to use an insecticide for those tiny places. For this you can either use Diatomaceous Earth, or else boric acid powder.
Once you have got rid of the infestation, or if you are looking to avoid ever having a problem in the first place, then it will be necessary to learn how they come about. That way you shouldn’t ever need bed bug treatment because you will be able to know how to avoid picking up an infestation. Unfortunately this is not very easy because you cannot just judge by the condition a room is in as to whether it will have a bed bug problem.
If a room has a problem with cockroaches, then they are going to be large enough to see easily. Although they do stay out of the light, so there could be a problem in that way. You don’t even have to see them to see why there could be a problem though, if it is a filthy room then you could have trouble with rats, mice or cockroaches for example. However it could be a very clean looking room and it might still have a bed bug infestation because they only require a host to be able to survive. But they also cannot travel very far, which is a good thing.
Just about the only way, then, that you are going to pick up a bed bug infestation is if you come in to the vicinity of bedbugs. So you are either going to have to go to where they are, or someone carrying them is going to have to come to where you are. This means that places like hotels, with lots of different people staying in them, could hardly be a better breeding ground.
If you are going to stay in a hotel, a bed and breakfast, a hostel or really anywhere new then you shouldn’t just go by how clean it look, you’ll have to look closely. Although in some hotels they now have specially trained sniffer dogs to find bed bug infestations, so if your room has already been checked over in that way you should be okay. Otherwise you’ll have to look very closely for any tiny bedbugs.
