Your bedroom is the most important room in your home as it is the room where you spend the most time. You will want to make your bedroom not only sedate, but inviting to anyone you invite into this room.
There are certain things that you should look at when it comes to your bedroom and decor. These include the colors painted on the walls, the bed position, the furniture in the bedroom, floor coverings, lighting and objects that will prevent sleeping.
The colors that you paint on the walls of your bedroom should be soft, subtle and soothing. You should go with light pastels in soothing earth tones or blues so that the room seems more sedate. Look for the calming, cool colors when painting a bedroom, instead of vibrant, warm colors. This can make a big difference when it comes to sleeping.
Another thing that you should look at is the position of the bed in the room. The bed should not block the doorway and should be the focal point of the room. If you want to make the most of space in your bedroom, put the bed against the longest wall in the room. This is an old decorating secret that still works. Another option, if you have a larger room, is to put your bed on an angle.
Take a look at the furniture in the bedroom – does it match the head frame and foot board of the bed? It does not have to be a perfect match, but it should be in the same family. If the head frame is very modern, the furniture in the room should also be modern. If the head frame is an antique, then the furniture such as dressers and end tables, should also be antique or at least they should have an antique look. This will make the room look properly coordinated and pulled together.
You need to look at floor coverings. Most people like to have throw rugs next to their beds so that their feet are comfortable and step into something warm when they get out of bed. Look for throw rugs that also match the decor of your room. If your bedroom is filled with antiques, choose an antique looking rug. If it is modern, choose a modern throw rug to put your feet on when you step out of bed.
Lighting should of course be suitable. A dim light is pleasant, best for relaxing. For night readers, use a good lamp with ample lighting by the bedside.
Have a bedside table for placing a lamp, essentials like alarm clock, glass of water and cellphone. You can also put your books here if you read before bedtime. Try to create an ambiance meant to calm your nerves so you can relax and have a good rest. Waking up energized every morning is something to look forward to.
