Having a guest bed on hand makes it much easier to accommodate family, friends, or guests when they come to visit, and provides a little extra flexibility for the unexpected.
A considerable variety of guest beds can be found on the market. These include sleeper sofas, futon chairs, trundle beds, and ottoman styles. There are memory foam folding beds, plain foam mats, spring supported rollaways, wooden slatted rollaways, and the cheap airbeds found in most large stores.
Each type can have some utility depending on what one is looking for and one’s budget, but there can also be very big differences in comfort. For most sleepers the cheap airbeds and the common spring supported rollaways sacrifice too much in the area of comfort. However many people still end up buying these, not aware that there are better choices out there, still at an affordable cost.
Different types offer different amounts of convenience, versatility, and comfort. Some models elevate the bed above the floor, while others lay flat on the floor. There are guest beds that fold and store (folding beds) and rollaway beds that fold and roll into a closet or other storage area.
Some types fold together into furniture, such as sleeper sofas, trundle beds, ottoman styles, and futon chairs, when not used for sleeping. Furniture guest beds are advantageous if your home has limited storage space or can use the extra piece of furniture, still keeping intact the bed option when it is needed.
A memory foam folding guest bed provides very good comfort and is a good option if you are OK with a guest bed that sits on the floor. Memory foam has special properties which enable it to conform to the body’s shape and react to body temperature. In this way it provides a uniform and comfortable sleeping area. Your guests will appreciate it.
Another good choice are the well constructed wooden slatted rollaway guest beds. A variety of models are available, varying in the thickness and type of mattress, sturdiness of the frame, and of course in length and width of the bed.
Any of them should be more comfortable to sleep on for most people than a spring supported rollaway. Wooden slatted rollaways give good and firm support and do not sag in places like the woven metal spring supported rollaways tend to do. And there is no squeaking when one moves about on the bed. The wood construction also gives good durability.
